Liked it a lot! Had to read quickly in time for RHUMC Book Club in two days but one sitting was just about right. I really liked the SAR stories and the focus on the outdoors, including an open eyed assessment of the dangers. The spiritual questions and theories were consistent with my views too.

In this book the author shares about her experiences as chaplain to the Maine Warden Service. With such a unique form of ministry, her stories are fascinating. She is a Unitarian Universalist (just so you know) and the book also covers her personal loss (the loss of her husband in a car accident) that led her to serve in the Warden Service. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in chaplaincy OR search-and-rescue missions in the Maine wilderness.
I'm counting this as "a book about the natural world" for #vtReadingChallenge because it contains so much description of working in the Maine wilderness.

I really loved this book. Very honest and accessible storytelling, with a wonderful mix of theological ponderings and concrete vignettes. I was moved to tears on multiple occasions. Will recommend!
i love how she talks about death and mourning. I was raised harshly Christian and this book does talk a lot about religion (which I would normally dislike) but I love how she talks about it. She's a Unitarian Universalist minister and her perspective is open and accepting. The stories are fascinating and I feel they're applicable to my life. She has a wonderfully quirky sense of humor and I laughed many times. She is a beautiful writer and completely down-to-earth. An awesome book that I recommend to all my friends, religious or not.
I enjoyed the behind the scenes look at the work that Maine Game Wardens do - a lot of search and rescue. She talked quite a bit about her religion and her views were a bit confusing to me.
Would have finished it in one sitting, if I had the time. Wonderful read. Definitely recommend.
