There once was a princess who loved her…. Wait… wrong book. This series is perfect for TOG enthusiasts though. It has a strong FMC, who really only becomes a stronger and more rounded character throughout these books. There’s a fae prince (swoon). And lots and lots of secrets.
In this book we meet Scarlett’s new found found family and they are fun. I keep imagining what they would all sound like. I think Cyrus would have a British accent (it’s harder to get away with calling people darling with an US accent imo). Eliza could get away with an US accent. I’m not sure about Rayner. I don’t feel that he has gotten to show as much personality as the other two.
Basically, I’m completely hooked on this series and am immediately diving into book 3 to find out what happens next.

I liked book two more than its predecessor despite at times getting incredibly frustrated with Scarlett and her hypocrisy of keeping secrets but expecting everyone else to be completely transparent. Scarlett suffers from a massive character flaw one where she holds others to lofty high standards and woe betide they break her trust, but she herself seems to be exempt. She’s also quite the martyr and willing to sacrifice herself putting herself in stupid situations all whilst holding all of her many cards extremely close to her chest. Newsflash Scarlett! it’s not your responsibility to micro manage everything and keep the whole world and its dog safe, it’s not all about you, talk about a god complex. Despite the above this was still an incredibly easy and engaging read. I especially like Sorin and the way he wears his heart on his sleeve when it comes to Scarlett finding it incredibly endearing.
This second book focuses on the Fae lands and with Scarlett discovering just who Sorin really is let me tell you she’s not a happy bunny. We also get plenty of additional drama with the Callan angle as to keep him safe he’s along for the ride and his unrequited adoration for Scarlett was at times painful to witness. Here we discover more about soulmates and twin flame bonds and there's a bunch of drama due to a looming war and Fae politics. It was a packed edition and easily manages to retain my interest.
When we left things Sorin and Scarlet were sort of on the same page when it came to the romantic side of there relationship. But until Scarlet ceases playing single willing sacrifice and being TSTL and keeping secrets that she manages to justify to herself that there for their own good it’s going to be one step forward, two back. Anyway we left this all on a pivotal moment that took me completely unawares (Oh Scarlett 🙈) so I will be picking up book three. On a side note Scarlett and Sorin finally do the dirty it was a long time coming that’s for sure. So be prepared for that slow burn to finally come to fruition.

I swear this series just grips you and doesn’t let you go! The characters are so fantastic that you find yourself cheering for them and sad for them and ready to beat up other characters for them!! I have a new series I love and a new author to add to my bookshelves! I can’t wait for the next book! 🥰

I had a lot of problems with this book. The romance was nauseating at times, with constant cheesy monologues or constant fights. At times, this went from "similar to acotar" to a bit of blatant plagiarism, in my opinion. However, the plot and fantasy lore is so good I just can't quit this series. I highly prefer MKR's other series and cannot wait for book 3 of that series to come out, but this series is fun regardless.
