Characters were not believable. The plot placing did not align with character development, so we had a lot of telling vs showing. A lot of the plot lines were predictable and this feels far too close to stories written by Sarah J Maas. The main character was difficult to like. So much of her story was experiencing or reliving trauma but without exploring the recovery process or anything really meaningful...

The main love interest created useless conflict by continuing to withhold information for no good reason. Given the length of each book and the series, I expected this to be a slow burn with a lot of growth in their relationship. Unfortunately didn't get any of that.

The level of violence (and detail) really didn't serve to develop the plot or characters. It felt really heavy to read without any nuance or exploration of difficult themes.

Before I start, thank you to Harper Collins NZ for sending me a copy of this book to review.
.
OMG, that ending was a cliffhanger I did not see coming.
.
This series has everything Witches, Vampires, Fey, Spirit Animals, Shifters. The plot is complex and so well-written. The character list is massive but each character has been written so well with their personality that it's easy to follow.
.
There are a ton of twists and turns from Book 1, that come together in Book 2 only to leave us with even more questions and twists by the end of Book 2.
.
I am `100% sure that this is going to be a fav series for me, and I need book 3 now.
