I wasn't in the mood for this one when I started it, but it slowly brought me around.  It was good and pulled me back into the overall story arc.  I'm once again looking forward to the continuation of this story.

Complete Sarah Maas ripoff. Surprised her lawyers haven’t tried to shut these books down.

3 stars for the last 25%.
I’m waiting to leave Scarlett and Sorin behind, though. They are the least interesting thing about this series.

Not a full 5 stars, rounded up for Goodreads, because of how much Callan annoyed me in this

★ ★ ★ 3.5

I really wanted to love this series. It has everything I need in a fantasy romance novel, however that feeling of being hooked just wasn’t there. There were some moments in the story where it felt as though characters were making certain decisions that just didn’t felt super aligned with what we’ve seen from their personality so far. This, alongside some of the plot being somewhat confusing/random at times, is what has this rated under a four for me.

Disclaimer: I am a massive mood reader and toward the end of this book I was kind of just not feeling it. It felt repetitive and I wasn’t as intrigued by the mysteries cropping up to keep going with the next book. Which for me is super frustrating because I hate leaving a series incomplete.

All in all though, the first two books are decent. And if you’re just here for a good time I would still recommend the series overall.
