It was a very loving homage to the history of cursed horror films. It balanced the very real horror of abusive parenting with the popcorn-y horror of its Freddy Kreuger-esque Needle Man. While feeling rushed in parts, the mystery was still compelling and kept me hooked. I loved the format and it's really getting me in the mood for Spooktober.

  • Every year, about a little more than halfway through the summer, I get a little bit tired of the sun and the heat and start picking up more horror and thriller books to help bring on the fall vibes that I’m looking for (I want to wear a sweater so bad right now, but it is so hot and humid 💀)
  • So that’s exactly where this little book came in! I read it in about a day and a half but probably could have finished it in one sitting had I not had other things to do. It’s that much of a page-turner.
  • This was a great summer slasher/horror novel. I loved the fact that it took place in Hollywood and centered around a cursed 90s horror film because I am, a heart, a movie nerd.
  • It was also very cool that each chapter started with some other form of media: a Tweet, a podcast transcript, a police report, script pages, journal entries, etc. It really helped with the background story and world-building. Plus, it’s fun to have something a little different to break up the chapters.
  • All in all, this was a fun/creepy book and would probably make a great movie one day. If you’re into horror (novels or movies), I highly recommend it!

Well written, engaging, interesting plot line/concept but horror that relies on paranormal feels lazy to me so it's not for me. If this is your thing though it's pretty good.

LOVED the first two thirds or so of the book, but the ending was such a predictable let down.
