The symbolism in it is crazy! Childhood guilt and trauma, the way Hollywood makes people into things they are not, and how cycles sometimes don’t break. It has a good ending. An ending for a horror that you didn’t want to expect but knew that’s how it was going to go. It’s sad. Overall it was written very good. Love the spooky/ghost aspect of it and makes you question what’s real and what’s not.

You can tell the author is a horror fan and who their favorite celebrities were by the huge amount of name drops. They must’ve gotten a lot of copyright releases.

 Journalisten Laura Warren tvingas möta sina demoner när tidningen som hon jobbar för skickar henne till LA för att rapportera kring nyproduktionen av skräckfilmen The Guesthouse. Det ingen vet är att Laura själv medverkade i originalfilmen: hon hade huvudrollen som den då 7-åriga Tammy Manners. Eftersom filmen sägs vara förhäxad, och åtta personer ur produktionen avlidit sedan den lanserades, håller Laura sin identitet hemlig. Hon hoppas kunna genomföra jobbet snabbt och smärtfritt och sedan fly in i sin avskärmade verklighet igen. Men redan på vägen till inspelningsplatsen hoppar en man från en byggnad och landar i hennes direkta närhet. Det har med andra ord börjat igen... och den här gången bestämmer sig Laura för att försöka göra något åt "förbannelsen" som vilar över filmen.

Har du läst Marisha Pessls bok Night Film, och gillade den, så är det här en perfekt bok för dig! Även här är en förbannad film i fokus och boken blandar mixed media med klassiskt berättande. Det går fort att läsa och spänningen trappas upp mer och mer. Avslutet tillåts vara långt och ganska utdragen och sista sidorna är sådär rysligt Terror on Elm Street-läbbiga att även den mest passionerade skräckfilmsfantasten lär finna det tillfredsställande.

Boken får 4 av 5 halvt uppbrända filmnegativ av mig.

This one was GOOD, but it just fell a little flat at the end. I appreciated the idea of her trauma literally manifested into a physical being. But I don’t think it answered enough questions. I was thrilled throughout the read, but I don’t know if it’s one of my all time favorites. I LOVED the open ended ending, but it didn’t satisfy me in the way I wanted it to. Anyways, enjoyable and I could increase this rating once I think about it more but right now, solid three stars.

This book gets 4 stars for vibes - if you're a horror movie fan at all, you'll have a lot of fun with this one. The aesthetics are great too, with some epistolary pieces in the form of scripts, online posts, journals, etc., that are wonderfully and artfully done. The story and plot isn't revolutionary but it's a fun ride.
