Unsurprisingly amazing. For a YA I found it lacking in most of the annoying tropes while still focusing on a young adult cast. Overall another knock out from Hazelwood.

“I feel it, too, I want to say. I feel the same. Like everyone around us is part of the same connective tissue, and you’re just floating about. Unbound.”

The first half of this book was really winding up to be a 5 star read. Its plot is a pleasant balance of romance and chess. I had a some qualms about a few of the main characters choices, but figured they’d be hashed out later in the book. However, in the second half, her choices were so irritating I almost threw the book out of rage. But the redemption arch was satisfying, and I reallllyyy enjoyed all the rest.

Short and sweet. A book with the MMC is secretly pining for the FMC is always a good read. For me, I just wish there was more at the end. It kinda felt up in the air.
