Very much YA. I felt the plot to be a little contrived and had difficulty understanding the FMC’s thought process truly.

What I like about the book was the introduction of the world off chess and competition. I thought it was a cool to bring a romance book about it. I liked that Mallory and Nolan felt like a crush that made you nervous. I think I like the simplicity of it, especially after coming from book where everything was so complex for no reason. I do wish we had a better ending, I was looking forward to them finally playing a game!!! I thought Mallory was annoying at point but only because she’s so young. I know this was a Ya but I do think it would’ve been better as an adult. It already felt like it in so many other ways. I gave it a 4 because it I thought they were kinda cute and adorable. I could do with out the gen z references tho, they felt forced and just dated the book in a bad way.

This woman can do no wrong
