Per usual, Hitchens delivers a winnowing and enthusiastic critique of the human experience. He describes what it is to be dying of cancer in a gut-wrenchingly personal yet remarkably observational account. He describes candidly his forays into indignance, hopefulness, and annoyance at his condition and others’ replies to it. Mortality is brief and at some points stark, and carries the characteristic warmth, polemicism, and self-treatment that make Hitchens uniquely likeable and brilliant.
