For the Sandman universe, this was unexpectedly twee. Especially for a story with Despair as one of the main characters.
I enjoyed the concept - Death, Delirium, Despair all figuring out what to do with the souls of Hell when Lucifer gives Dream the key and leaves - but the execution felt a little overly silly. The art was great, though; Thompson did a really good job of translating the more classical comic book style of the series into this more cutesy, Manga inspired look.

The thing about Sandman, though, is that every version of The Endless is but an aspect of the concept they embody - so who's to say that it didn't happen this way? Canon is very malleable in this universe. And we really don't know what they did with the souls during Season of Mists.

Jill Thompson's Death manga spin-off is quite excellent.

Thompson was always my favorite of the Sandman illustrators, and she does a beautiful job with At Death's Door. Funny, great art, excellent fill-in story.

All around good work.

fake manga, but fun to read nonetheless.

OK, so this is like Chibi Sandman. I was not particularly impressed. But it was funny.

like for many other readers, Death is one of my favorite characters ever, so of course i have to read this story. but, wow, what a let-down. it could have been a great story, but all this rewriting of Season of Mists from another point of view? no, thank you. all the characters looked really cute tho.

I Love Death. I don't know Neil Gaiman Sandman's Death, but Jill Thompson's gives her interpretation to such a lively character (no pun intended) that you'll fall in love within her. I always thought that if we would personalize the entities of universe and creation, they should be mostly female. The story also contain many references to pop culture, history and culture in general. Everybody should read it.

[REVIEW TO COME UPON A RE-READ.]

Basically just a retelling of the Sandman story where he gets the key to Hell and everyone wants it, but focusing on Death's POV during the whole kerfuffle. I honestly might keep it just for reference pics and variant costume ideas, since I cosplay Death at con. It was a cute story (and I admit a soft spot for the subplot about Edgar Allen Poe's love for Despair, his muse) and I liked the art a lot, plus I really liked getting more time with Despair and Delirium, but the plot itself was dispensable and relied a bit too much on copying the original Sandman comic. I confess also, I was disappointed not to see Death
kicking some demon ass at the end - having them all disappear so conveniently was a cop out
.

It was so interesting that I want to read the sandman comics after halloween.
