I'm not going to lie. I probably would've enjoyed this book more if there hadn't been so many pronouns! I spent more time figuring out which character I was following than enjoying the story.

A slight let down. This book has all the typically beautiful prose you'd expect from mccarthy- the simple dialogue coupled with the biblical language and gorgeous description. However, I found myself lost multiple times in the book; it took a long time for me to get to grips with all the characters and there are parts when mccarthy delves into a character's memory almost randomly, and it just served to confuse the story. For instance, SPOILER ALERT, if the blurb had not informed me of this, I would have had no idea that sylder had killed John wesleys dad. It was all just a little too disjointed for me. Certainly, it pales in comparison to the likes of blood meridian, the road and outer dark. 4/10
