Probably my least favorite from this series and the reason is pretty obvious. There was zero need for a third book. Killmen Creek wrapped up the story and tied all the loose ends. This book was just meant for the purpose of milking the popularity of the series. The whole new plot around Wolfhunter River was so off track from the Proctor family storyline that I couldn't really invest in any of the new characters. The story felt a bit dragged and way too stretched. Nonetheless, considering the first two books, it was a really good series. Rachel Caine retained her immaculate writing skills, i'll give her that.

This is a hard one to review. While I freakin’ adored Wolfhunter River, I can completely see why other people didn’t.
The pacing is admittedly very wonky. While it’s a quick read, you get 2/3 of the way through without knowing where the book is heading - and I can see people struggling with that.
But when it came together, it came together strong! I. LOVED. IT! Wolfhunter River has that fucked up circus funhouse vibe of Gillian Flynn’s Sharp Objects: you know something is afoot in this creepy ass town but just have to stick around, watch how Rachel Caine connects the dots, and pray you make it out of there alive.
While the plot meanders for 2/3 of the book, there’s still a lot going on here. We’ve got disappearing women, an abduction, a girl imprisoned, dodgy law enforcement, a missing car, and a whooooole lot of cover up. It doesn’t seem like any of the puzzle pieces fit together, but Rachel Caine manages to bring it together in one fell swoop, demonstrating that Wolfhunter River is more fucked up than you could’ve ever dreamed!
Rachel Caine’s books are always cinematic and the action and tension had me audibly gasping! The chase/shootout scenes are super stressful; the creepy hick town set my nerves on fire; and some of our relationships are really put to the test. I particularly liked how the kids have demanded a larger role in the story as they grow up, which also contributes to the number of things that can go wrong.
4.5 stars. There’s a big body count for this one and I CANNOT WAIT to see where the crew heads next!

I was drawn to the premise, the fight against public opinion and lurking anonymous figures, also the baggage Gwen, Sam and the kids carry. Although the pace was enjoyable, I had some beef with the way the mystery of Wolfhunter unfolded. I guess from the premise I expected some intricate cover-up and some literal hunt for the truth which did not happen. It all came to a pretty quiet conclusion. But I must say I am starting to really love and look forward to this series. Gwen is a badass.
