Thanks to @netgalley , this third book in the series Stillhouse Lake is available as a Read Now! This series remains one of my favorites, and this one did not disappoint! @rachelcainewriter does such a great job of keeping you on the edge of your seat through the entire book!
In Wolfhunter River, Gwen receives a mysterious caller from an unknown woman asking for help for her and her daughter. She says that she can’t trust the police and sounds fearful of her life. Gwen feels drawn to the situation and is determined to help... but will she be too late or will it put her own family in further danger?

After the last one I was wondering how Rachel Caine could write another good one in this series, but WOW! She did! The beginning was a bit slow and some bits were a bit repetitive (as you get with series explaining a bit of the past), many hints were dropped but I couldn't stitch it together at first. There is always so much happening in these novels, it amazes me that they are not double in size. And it works, it works really really well.
In Wolfhunter River we follow a couple of stories. Of course the one about the family, but it also sidetracks with a more personal story from Sam. And if that isn't disruptive enough, a woman calls out of the blue asking for help. This woman dies and Gwen and Lanny try to rescue her daughter, while Connor gets interested in the history of the town and the disappearing women around there. Oh, and a little girl is kidnapped too. Without going into detail here, there are several life threatening moments, a lot of emotions, some betrayals and so many twists and turns.
I'm already putting the next one on hold at the library, but I'm starting to think I should buy all of these for re-reading.

While I still was enticed to read to the end, I felt like this series is starting to loose it's steam with this one.

If you look at the previous reviews you will know what kind of series this is. This third installment continues in the same fast-paced mould. The story focuses a lot on the horrors of online trolls and the ganging up of people who feel a need to seem righteous and vent venom on people and events that they have no direct contact with or even the appropriate information about. The previous two are not completely necessary going into this since some of the content is repeated for our benefit.
Gwen Proctor has given it her best shot, she thought that coming on TV and trying to point out the dangers on internet trolls and the unseemly effect that they have on her children would help them. It backfires completely and brings to the forefront a woman who hates her so much that she might be a worse enemy than her Ex himself! Given her tenuous situations in life, Gwen has become a beacon of word-of-mouth recommendations to other people, especially women who find themselves the center of unwelcome attention only because of a relationship with a criminal. This leads the whole family on a trip which turns out to be a deadly option.
Corrupt officials, crazy villains, murderous car chases and a lot of flying bullets. The family sticks together and behaves realistically given the crazy situations they end up in. The narration was awesome because all four of our lead characters got their own narrator. I guessed the twists that came and that reduced my enthusiasm for the book by a little bit only because the pace of the book relies heavily on these twists. It is not an easy read but is not as graphic as some of the other thrillers out there. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would because I saw a lot of less than glowing reviews of this book in the blogosphere. I am glad I liked it!

Wolfhunter River by Rachel Caine - the third book in the Stillhouse Lake series - is available April 23, 2019!
In the third book in the Stillhouse Lake series, Gwen decides to publicly defend herself and her innocence on television. She soon realizes that her plan has backfired and she finds herself, her kids, and her boyfriend, Sam Cade, in danger once again They are pursued by people who believe that Gwen was an accomplice in her husband's killing spree many years ago. To make matters worse, she receives a phone call that draws her into another dangerous situation that seems impossible to escape.
I have been following this series since the first book came out and was greatly anticipating this book. This one started a little slow for me but quickly turned around once the action started and I could not put it down. While some of the action scenes seem a little far fetched, I didn't mind because they are so exciting to read. I do not think this will be the last book in the series, which is great because I have enjoyed reading about Gwen, Lanny, Connor, and Sam. If you haven't read the Stillhouse Lake series and you like thrillers, this is a great series to try. You can start with the first book titled Stillhouse Lake.
Thank you to Netgalley and Thomas and Mercer Publishing for the free advanced reader's copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Wolfhunter River by Rachel Caine is book #3 in the Stillhouse Lake series. Gwen Proctor is the ex-wife of serial killer Marvin Royal. Gwen has a hard time escaping the notoriety associated with her ex-husband’s crimes. However, this time Gwen is trying to help a young girl in a remote part town all while trying to keep her family safe from those who believe she was in on Marvin’s crimes.
The Stillhouse Lake series is one of my favorite series. I’m in love with the complex characters, the action and the resilience of the characters. I can’t wait to read the next installment in this series.
I received a review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Synopsis from NetGalley/Publisher
Gwen Proctor escaped her serial-killer husband and saved her family. What she can’t seem to outrun is his notoriety. Or the sick internet vigilantes still seeking to avenge his crimes. For Gwen, hiding isn’t an option. Not when her only mission is to create a normal life for her kids.
But now, a threatened woman has reached out. Marlene Crockett, from the remote town of Wolfhunter, is panicked for herself and her daughter. When Gwen arrives in the small, isolated rural community, Marlene is already dead—her own daughter blamed for the murder. Except that’s not the person Marlene feared at all. And Gwen isn’t leaving until she finds out who that was.
But it may already be too late. A trap has been set. And it’s poised to snap shut on everyone Gwen loves. Her stalkers are closing in. And in a town as dark as Wolfhunter, it’s so easy for them to hide…

Caine does not disappoint. The story continues and is suspenseful and thrilling as Stillhouse and Killman. Love the series and in to the next!
I loved the first two books in the series, and while this one is an enjoyable read with familiar characters, there are way too many plotlines for one novel here. Things get way too muddy and confusing for one book. The result is that none of the storylines gets full attention or development.
