Wolfhunter River is the third book in the rather creepy Stillhouse Lake series, and whilst Ms Caine cleverly lulls you into a false sense of security by beginning in a slow and steady manner it suddenly evolves into a totally different beast altogether. The setting is the ominous and mysterious remote hunting town of Wolfhunter River, Tennessee and from the chilling and menacingly intense atmosphere down to the twists in the tale, the story is told with the author's usual aplomb. This is a deliciously dark fable and one which is so easy to pick up but virtually impossible to put down.
After the meandering beginning the pace lifts, the plot becomes multifaceted and complex and you struggle to establish just who can be trusted. To top it all off the diverse cast and exploration of current societal issues are broached with both grit and sensitivity and lends a realism missing from many thrillers. My bet is if you enjoyed the previous two novels that you'll love this just as much. I must say, though, that I thought this was the best to date. Roll on the next one - Bitter Falls - due to be published in January 2020. I simply can't get enough of this suspenseful series. Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer for an ARC.

The twists and turns in this one were even better than the first two in the series, which I also loved. The character interaction is getting convoluted, which is a great thing, as everyone is trying to figure out who to trust and who needs to be cast aside for their past. Can't wait to read the next one!
I love the Stillhouse Lake series and although I was excited for a third installment, I was uncertain where it could possibly go with these characters. I love the dorection that the books are taking! The same tension and danger that were in the earlier books is still here. The mystery at Wolfhinter River is intriguing, especially set against the backdrop of the problems that Gwen and the kids are still having. The complicated relationship between Gwen and Sam is raw and evolving. I care about these characters and can't wait for book 4.
I can't get enough of Rachel Caine's thrillers! This is book 3 in the Stillhouse Lake series, there's at least going to be one more book too! I really enjoyed this book. I love these characters, except the kids sometimes lol But, I found the kids to be much less annoying in this book :P The plot took a twist that definitely sets up the possibility for this to be a long running series. If you like thrillers, please give the Stillhouse Lake series a try!

I listened to the audio version of this book. After having threats and danger coming at her and her family for 2 books, Gwen Proctor puts herself on the line for a stranger when she gets a call from a woman in Wolfhunter River. When the woman dies, Gwen gets a call from the woman's daughter and Gwen goes to see if she can help.
This book has multiple points of view and having different narrators for each part really adds to the story.
The suspense will keep you on the edge of your seat as you wonder if this is the end for Gwen and her family.

This was Rachel Caine's third book in her Stillhouse Lake series. Gwen Proctor is the ex-wife of a serial killer. She and her children have been targeted by internet stalkers and weird murder-fanatics for years. Some of those people have wanted to harm Gwen as a favor for her ex, and some of them still believe she played some role in his crimes. In this book, a woman from a rural town reaches out to Gwen for help. Gwen has to decide if this woman truly needs help or if it's a trap to lure her into another bad situation. When the woman turns up dead, Gwen realizes she needs to step in to help solve the crime.

I remember when I got the first book, Stillhouse Lake, as a free Kindle book from Amazon. I didn't expect much from a free book, but I was truly blown away. Stillhouse Lake was so good, in fact, that I convinced my brother to read it and he loved it too! The second book, Killman Creek, sort of made an ending to the storyline that had begin in the first book, so I was interested to see how the third would fit into the series. This book didn't necessarily follow the storyline that had previously been set up - the target being on Gwen and her children because of her ex-husband's crimes. Instead, Gwen finds herself working alongside an investigation team to help solve a crime for someone else. I'm curious to see if Caine will make Gwen a character in other books as well. Check this one out on its publication day - April 23rd!

I love this series so much. No frills, just classic thrills.
This one simply has way too much going on while being repetitive.
This is definitely a transition book. It lacks the desperation and raw emotion of the first, and there's no clear reason for Gwen to be doing what she's doing in this one except strictly as a way to move the story into full series territory.
That said, while the first 100 pages of this dragged and the plot was a bit...convenient...I did very much enjoy this. I always love Gwen being her badass self, her kids are really starting to grow into themselves, and Sam!!! I'm glad to see the last of the secrets ripped away from their relationship, and glad it didn't break them. I really love Sam Cade.
Not my favorite book, but still managed to leave me hungry for the next installment!

This series continues to keep me absolutely hooked. I love the way Caine writes about human emotions and how nothing is black and white, how good people can do bad things and how bad people can have redeeming qualities or at least explanations for their behaviour.
I also love how she writes the relationship between Gwen and Sam. I don't like romance in my books because I hate the "I saw his dazzling smile and looked into his deep blue eyes and from that moment on I was in love" trope. The relationship between Gwen and Sam builds up slowly and feels realistic. They are partners and look after each other, they care deeply about each other despite their flaws and the things between them. It's a lot more to my liking than two people falling in love at first sight and seeing everything with rose tinted glasses.
The only small criticism I have about this book is that the ending felt a little rushed. Things kept building up and building up, and then all of a sudden, everything was resolved and wrapped up simultaneously. Perhaps spreading out the conclusions to different storylines would have felt more realistic than everything happening at the same time. This didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book however and it was still a solid 5-star read for me.
I can't wait to read the next book in the series, and I will definitely give a try to Rachel Caine's other books as well.
