I really wanted to like this book. It deals with some very important topics. Unfortunately, I just couldn't get past all of the southern euphemisms. I hope that it will reach it's intended audience.

The Whispers

Okay wow what to say about this book. Its stats off with a mother telling her son as story about these things called the Whispers.

Then it jumps to Riley is talking to a deactivate because his mother has gone missing. The deactivate has been questioning Riley for four months about his mother's disappears.

So Riley feels like they aren't doing anything. And that his dad doesn't love him anymore...

This book took me threw the emotions. I loved it. It made me cry, laugh. Like wow. What an amazing book. Enjoyed it so much.

A serious gut punch of a book. Beautiful, and will knock the wind out of you. Some very sweet characters caring for each other in the best ways they can, everyone trying their best in their own clumsy ways. I took away one star for

the idea that after the first big breakthrough you might just be done with therapy and not need it anymore.

A 5th grade student asked me why there wasn't more lgbtq+ representation in our school and library. I thanked her for pointing it out to me and showed her a bunch of books we've acquired and some signage I made since taking over the library position this summer. She liked them but basically said it wasn't enough. She and a friend offered to help make pride art and displays and I pledged to add more lgbtq+ content to the library. This endearing and clever read is a result.

This book is a mystery, a tragedy, a love story and everything else. I love main character Riley and his dog, Tucker. It hurt to read the fear and shame and projection Riley endured due to his closeted homosexuality. It hurt to see that tragic pain of existence on several other characters. But it was wonderful to see his relationships and how they all endure grief and mental health and life together. I can't wait to read the next new book in my stack.

IM NOT CRYING, YOURE CRYING.
But actually, I’m laying on my bed sobbing at 4pm because I got too involved in the last 3rd of this book and it broke my heart (in the best way).

WOWWW - so beautifully written, I loved it so much!! Obsessed with the relationships in the story, and the way the author exposed all the twists, the fairy-tale mixed with the harsh reality, and all the wonder.

The author’s note killed me too <3
