A very fun start to a series. My main complaints would be about the lack of complexity/intelligence to the setup of the society that the book presents. The characters are great and there's plenty of exciting action and discoveries throughout the book.

I picked this for the cover and boy am I glad I did!! This story was wonderful!! I couldn't stop listening and I've already started the second one!!

My only gripe is something that happens at the end and including it would be a rather large spoiler. The story is not negatively impacted, it's just a personal issue of mine.

Super fun MG adventure with great characters and awesome twists! Loved the world, the steampunk aspect and the story was just fun and entertaining with a little mystery thrown in as well. Can't wait for the next one!

I love the idea of a mechanical dragon that finally gives rebels of an underground society some aerial clues about what their real history is.

Predictable elements for a gateway book, and a few annoying tropes: everyone shouts anything they want to emphasize, how the love triangle will end is obvious, everyone is shocked when the tyrannical government turns out to be evil. In some ways it does resemble a poor man's The Giver, but it might prove more interesting in Book 2.

Trenton has always wanted to be a mechanic, he loves figuring out how things work. But his creativity and ingenuity are frowned upon in the city of Cove. Cove was created by people trying to escape from the evils of technology which caused the world to become polluted. Now Trenton is being punished for his creativity by being sent to work in food production instead of mechanics.

When Trenton discovers an odd piece of metal his quest to figure out what it is leads to him becoming friends with Kallista, the daughter of a mad inventor, Together Trenton and Kallista discover more mysterious parts and in doing so discover the truth about their city.

I really enjoyed this book. In some ways it had a City of Ember feel. There was a good mystery, a good relationship between Trenton and Kallista, and a twist I didn't see coming. There will be more in the series but the book had a good ending. Really enjoyed this. Wish I hadn't received just an ARC because I would love to get this right into my library.
