3 1/2 stars. I liked the idea and I liked the protagonists, and I detested the villains. The action is mostly fairly reasonable, but in a couple of places I found myself wondering how we got to this so quickly (it felt like a step or two was missing). The ending is a bit over the top, so it was difficult to maintain my suspension of disbelief (yeah, it's not really believable that *all* of this can just be covered up). Overall, it's a fun read and I'm willing to try the next in the series.

The scary thing about this book is if a drug like this every came into existence, the events in this book could seriously happen.

Oh the surprises. I am not a big zombie fan. That being said I am a big Rachel Caine fan. In that spirit I purchased and devoured Working Stiff. I am used to zombies being the bad guys but Ms. Caine made the zombie in this book the heroine and made it work. Like her Weather Warden series this book rocks. There is never a dull moment. Another fantastic roller coaster ride

I have read other books by this author and loved them. Currently fascinated by The Great Library series. I would almost think this deadly dull, confusing and not at all intriguing storyline written by someone else entirely. I barely finished before my 21day borrow period was up. In contrast I read Ink and Bone by her in 4 hours. Make what you will of that.

This was my first Rachel Caine book and I loved it! I'm normally not into zombies and the like, but this one really captured my interest from the first chapter. I think there are 3 books in this series so I definitely need to find the next 2 and see how it all ends for Bryn, Pat and Joe.

Was well done, but the constant reminders of how very dead she was were creepy. I was ok with the real dead bodies but the images of what could happen to her...gross. It wasn't gratuitous or anything, but that really isn't my style, so I probably won't continue the series unless I decide to skim some of those descriptions in the future. Other than that, it was a solid, fun read.

Truthfully, it is difficult for me to rate this book because I'm not sure quite how I feel about it. There are no supernatural creatures in this book, which is fine, but there is some weird science going on. Basically some corporate pharmaceutical company mistakenly developed a drug that can revive the newly deceased and maintain them as they are, i.e. they won't age, indefinitely. The only catch is that they will need a daily injection of the drug forever or else they will decompose over the course of a week, after which they will stay dead. But while revived they act, feel, sleep, and eat just like any normal, living person. I did appreciate this new take on sentient zombies but it still had a certain "ick" factor for me, particularly in the romance aspect. At one point there's even a joke about necrophilia. There is no love triangle though so that is a plus. The heroine is likeable and there is a quiet strength to her. I thought the pacing was slow at times but the ultimate plans of the big bad are disturbing and the steps taken to achieve that are even more so. I'm not opposed to darker UF but I still find myself rather lukewarm about the whole book. Taken separately, the different elements are interesting and/or passable but somehow when they get combined into a whole it didn't really work for me.
