An absolute work of art, on every level.
This is my first foray into comic books (I've read other graphic novels, but they were standalones) and while it took me a little bit to get used to the cadence and other genre conventions (things happen very quickly, you meet a LOT of characters, it feels verrrrry episodic—which, to be fair, it literally is), I had such a fun time. It struck a perfect balance for me between indulgent, fun-loving fantasy entertainment and meaningful, well-crafted story. Most importantly for a graphic novel/comic book, it feels like it's a story that cannot be told in any other way. The hype is well-deserved.

An incredible, page turning graphic novel that sucks you in from start to finish. Fantasy, ethics, eugenics, and queerness all in one. I highly recommend this beautiful story and imagery.
