I was excited for this because I loved Underground Railroad. However, I did not enjoy this book really at all. The writing style, the way the storyline was laid out:all of it was uninteresting to me and boring.

Colson Whitehead is such an amazing and inspiring author, and he does such a wonderful job with The Nickel Boys. This story is heartwrenching, inspiring, and makes me feel all sorts of emotions. I love that he was able to take something that happened in this country and turn it into a fictional story that nearly everyone can sit down and enjoy, with a box of tissues at hand of course.

I can tell it's a good book, and an important topic - but for some reason it didn't grasp my attention. Perhaps because I listened to it as an audiobook? Or because I read the Reformatory by Tanarive Due immediately prior.
