4.5. A heartbreaking account of a teenage boy sent to a segregated reform school in 1960s Florida. Very well written and powerful, with an unexpected and sad ending. Much of the book was 5 stars, but I did feel I wanted more in places. To understand more from Elwood’s perspective and how the school affected his mentality and perspective on the world. I felt this was touched on but more detail could have been given. But overall a wonderfully written and powerful book.

that just knocked my socks off
how Elwood started off hoping to see a black man in the hotel restaurant and then that’s where Turner went at the very end and they said ‘sit wherever you like’
