This is like one step above porn without plot for most of the book and then at like 85% of the way through you start getting hit with one thing after another after another. I can’t believe I’m going to read the next book, but like I definitely am
adventurous
medium-paced
Better than the last book, but I still think it had more potential, and it still left me confused.
This is unrelated to the plot but the first book was set in Palermo but there was a map of the Kingdom Of The Wicked. This book was set in the Kingdom Of The Wicked but there was no map. Drove me nuts, like why was there a map when I didn’t need it but not one when I needed it?
I assumed that almost immediately after she arrived in hell she’d meet Pride but that didn’t happen. It starts with her and Wrath before the gates and she’s acting pissy with him because of his betrayal from the first book, and I’m still not sure what the betrayal was. They go through the sin corridor and Emilia has a sexy dream about wrath that she thought was real. Very embarrassing.
They arrive at the castle and Emilia has hypothermia which was basically another excuse to have the characters cuddling naked together and for Wrath to save Emilia’s life again. Why didn’t he just magic her clothes? Before they went through the sin corridor he magicked her a cloak, why not a full winter outfit?
They have a meal with all the nobles and my jaw dropped open when that noble dude asks her if she’s ever had cock in her mouth. Like wow, bold move, dude who’s name I can’t remember.
Later Celestia basically forces Wrath to tell Emilia that they’re engaged, but like why didn’t he tell her before, I still don’t get it? I was getting Rhysand flashbacks, cause Wrath kept telling Emilia she has choices but then doesn’t tell her something massive. I just don’t get why he didn’t tell her?
Emilia then goes to house envy which was interesting but she leaves after a day. I thought we’d get to know all the brothers more in this book, and we do a bit but barely.
Emilia has a lesson with Anir in combat which I like, cause I like it when women are violent. Then she has a lesson with Wrath which was fucking gross. Like I get that lessons to fight off demonic influences are a good idea but this dude deadass forced her to take off her clothes. Ew. They have three more sessions, one where he teachers her to dance, one where she gets drunk and Wrath fingers her, another where she has a vision and leaves. Another training session with Anir is never mentioned. Despite this it’s kind of implied that she does know hoe to defend herself and fight off demonic influence even though we never actually see her learn. She has that one session with Anir, and then she makes quite a few threats to people about using her dagger and they get scared and it’s implied she knows what she’s doing it but like bitch, when? All Anir taught her was her stance. The same with Wrath’s lessons. We see her in her lessons not knowing how to fight off demonic influence and then later in the sin corridor she says she knows how to. But like again, when? It’s a shame cause these concepts would’ve been really fun to read if they were seen through properly.
At one point someone tries to kill Emilia in the bathtub. Wrath kills that person and that’s it it. Never mentioned again. Emilia never investigates why or who did it. It’s never even brought up again. This is a pretty common theme. Something big happens that could be interesting but it’s never elaborated or brought up again.
The feast of the wolf we meet Gluttony and Pride. I like Gluttony he was chill and not annoying. His conversation with Emilia confused me though. I thought he indicated that she should join the hunt, but when she gets on the horse she wants to get far away from the hunt. She accidentally goes to Pride’s land and gets caught. I did not get the point of this scene. They keep her for an hour and then she goes, nothing happens.
The part I was looking forward to the most at the feast of the wolf was the fear taking part. Partly cause I wanted to know what tf that even meant, and then it didn’t even happen. Something even weirder happened. Pride was like the fear part is boring Emilia should just have a tryst with Wrath. And like how fucking weird is that. Like Wrath and Emilia were getting it on and everyone downstairs was just like lol they’re fucking rn.
Emile goes to the magic tree (I’ve forgotten what it’s called) meets the crone and writes Wrath’s true name in the tree. This reveals that Wrath is the devil and again, why didn’t he just tell her before? I don’t get why he keeps these secrets from her.
Then she finds the key and mirror, sees Vittoria in the mirror. And I end the book more confused then before.
Emilia was less annoying than the last book. Wrath was the pretty much the same but did things that annoyed me. In the last book he was the saving grace, I’m not sure I can say the same for this one. The training scene and not telling Emilia that he was the devil and that they were betrothed just annoyed me cause there was no reason for it. Anir was chill, wanted Emilia to die in the sin corridor lol, Fauna was just there so Emilia had someone to chat too. Celestia/Crone was cool, Envy was a shit stirrer and I’m ok with it, Gluttony was cool too, didn’t really care for Pride, barely saw lust and greed, and didn’t even fucking meet sloth.
The character that I’m confused that we didn’t see much of was Antonio? Like he killed Vittoria and other witches you’d think Emilia would have a lot of questions for him but no. She saw him once and he was snuggled up reading a book, living his best life. Good for him I guess.
This book was definitely better than the last, it was fun, fast paced and the smut was really good. Although not as confusing as the last book, there’s still things that I’m not clear on, and I’m left with a lot more questions. The premise of the book is really fun, but again, the writing just doesn’t pull through. So much is brought up that is relevant to the plot and the mystery but then it’s never brought up again, it’s hard to know which pieces of information are relevant to the plot or not. So much is brought up and it’s never really pieced together. It’s like the author just expects you to know, but an author should subtly but repeatedly remind the reader of the lore and what pieces together and what doesn’t, but the author doesn’t do that in this book series.
Something I was hoping would be explored more in this book was Emilia’s powers cause we don’t really see that much in the last book, and unfortunately we still don’t in this one. All Emilia did was make fire flowers, but that was it, and I don’t understand it’s use or relevance.
Like the last book, it’s kind of like the book didn’t go through enough drafts. It’s just a shame cause this book has such a fun premise and lot of potential but the planning and writing just doesn’t pull through. Hopefully the writing improves further in next book, and Vittoria clears some things up and brings more drama.

WAYYYY more interesting that the first. Loved the look into the demon princes' realm and the increase in spice 😈 love that the mystery keeps going and its not totally predictable like the first one (still a good read don't get me wrong)
The ideas and plot twists are really great! However, I would have preferred if the story had included fewer 'magical objects' that felt completely unnecessary to the main plot. Instead, I would have liked more focus on explaining the scheming and unraveling the truth. I love the characters much more than in the previous book — they’re starting to feel more three-dimensional and no longer flat.
