Thoroughly enjoyed this - made me think about the society we live in today and all the symbolic parallels. One of those sort of novels that sticks with you.

Slow and meditatively sad. Such an incredible idea and really well executed.

What if your knowledge of the things around you started to disappear? What is that shiny silver wrapped around your finger? What are those creatures flying in the sky?

The Memory Police is a haunting novel that follows the life of a young woman as she and other residents of the island face disappearance after disappearance. Their memories are slowly being taken from them, until they fade from existence.

It was beautifully written, though the dialogue felt a bit awkward. What irked me the most was the lack of reasoning for the memory thefts. The police claimed they were simply taking away memories of things that were unimportant and unnecessary, but they were also dissolving memories so vital that their disappearances were life-altering. What is the benefit of destroying everyone? We never find this out.
