Interesting story, odd style

I enjoyed this story, but I was not a fan of the David Copperfield styles headings as the beginning of each chapter. There were aspects of the story that felt far fetched but the drama and humor were enough to keep me entertained through to the end. I think Edwin Green is a sad protagonist, and Parker was by far the better character. Wish we could have had more about her perspective and less of Edwins pathetic outlook on life.

***All ratings are out of 5, with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest.

Main Character: 3 (Edwin)
Plot: 3 (yes, I gave the book a 2-star rating, but that's because the plot's not my cup of tea, yet I was still interested in seeing how it'd unfold, and the dialogues between Edwin and Parker are funny.

The old man let out a long sigh, leaned in toward me, and said, “You might get one chance like that in your life, son, and you damn well better be ready to take it or it’ll haunt you forever.”

Parker crossed her arms and said, “I think I’m offended. Why aren’t you shaking in fear right now.” “Trust me,” I said, “you scare the shit out of me.”

“The world is a stage, Edwin Green, but the play is badly cast.”

Spoiler“Wait, Edwin … I love you.” And there they were, the words I’d waited twelve long months, risked my future, and broken countless laws to hear. But by then I knew Parker was right. Sadie was the girlfriend equivalent of a serial killer, and she’d only called because when she checked her shoebox my heart was no longer there.

Overall Enjoyment: 2

Review:
I was interested in the first, maybe 10, chapters, but these chapters are super short and straight to the point, which I liked. The dialogues kept me interested and the traveling moments were here and there for me, so pick up this book if you're interested in a traveling journey filled with funny misfits.

Two high schoolers break a 90 year old out of his nursing home and go to France in search of his long lost love and chaos ensues.

What a fun surprise, this was an absolute blast!

I honestly had no idea what to expect going in but this was silly, whimsical, touching, and adventurous and I enjoyed it so much. I can't remember the last time I laughed out loud this many times reading a book.

I listened to the audio and I'm honestly not sure I would have enjoyed it as much if I'd been reading it with my eyeballs. There's more than a touch of absurdity to it and somehow the audio lent itself nicely to just getting lost in the hilarity and not taking things too seriously. There's also definitely a manic pixie dream girl quality that didn't bother me as much with the audio as I think it could have.

Overall this was a fun, light, and quick read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Thank you to the publisher for the review copy.

My entire review can be summed up in 3 words: Over the top.

Unfortunately, it was to the point of being unbelievable. I found myself rolling my eyes quite a lot at some of the situations the characters found themselves in.

I finished it just to see what would happen but it's not something I'd recommend.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me an ARC of the book, for my honest review. This book was so good and sweet. It sort of reminds me of a John Green novel. I found myself laughing out loud. That’s why I love YA novels. They are so innocent. I felt like I was talking with my grandfather, at times. It brought back some really good memories.
