A very entertaining read - it had me hooked before I realized it and I soon found that anything dragging me away from Royce and Hadrian a great inconvenience! I haven't read the Riyria Revelations series, but you can bet I will now!
I feel like I keep repeating myself in my reviews of books by Sullivan, but he is such a good writer! Diverse, well written characters, strong female characters, plots that are intricate and exciting and take you by surprise.
Since this book is set before the Revelations, the characters are different. And Sullivan writes them like that, with their less experience and less development. And it's real and true and brilliant.

I've never really been a fan of prequels, but this one was amazing, and it was so great to have Royce and Hadrian back. I'm definitely excited for the next book.
