This went by too fast. I just need many many more books in this world with these characters. Happy reading!

3.5 stars. Very easy to read. The pacing is good and the story, action and characters make you want to read more. Hadrian is likeable, Royce interesting and Gwen is admirable. I really, really admire Gwen - what she has been through and what she achieves. Even though the heroes are Hadrian & Royce I was most interested in Gwen's story and I liked how they tied together. Looking forward to the next one.

Sort of like a fantasy version of 'The Odd Couple.' Nothing unique or particularly special, but a good read nonetheless. Will read the rest of the series.

This is tale of how my Favorite fantasy duo met. If you have read Riyria Revelation first then many easter eggs can be found in the first novel of Riyria chronicles.

I recently learned about this prequel series to Michael J. Sullivan's The Riyria Revelations, and I was absolutely thrilled to get to return to the characters and world I loved reading about so much the first time. I literally couldn't stop smiling. As Sullivan explains, you can begin with either The Riyria Revelations or this prequel series, The Riyria Chronicles. Personally, I am really enjoying understanding and noticing all the little Easter eggs and hints Sullivan has provided in the prequel series. So that's the order I'd recommend. Seriously, if you like fantasy, read this guy's books!

A delight of a book with great characters and smart dialogue, touching on topics such as friendship, trust and one’s will.
Definitely read this series in chronological order (meaning, starting with this one) – I’m not sure I would like this book as much if I knew where the characters would eventually end up.

This book is pushed out as "the boys are back in town" comeback/prequel. It is that, Hadrian Blackwater and Royce Melborn are both back in action although they are not Riyria...yet. This is there coming together story and it's a good one actually about how i would picture their meeting going. HOWEVER, to me, this is Gwen's book you get her background story as well and it really fleshes out her character. It great to see Sullivan take a character that was arguably minor in the first series and have her step up to a main role. She provides a unique sense of both alignment and contrast with Hadrian's story (Riyria side is mostly his POV).

You should probably go read this book if you haven't. The good thing about it is if you haven't read the Revelations storyline it's okay to start here. I would recommend starting with [b:Theft of Swords|10790290|Theft of Swords (The Riyria Revelations, #1-2)|Michael J. Sullivan|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1307959785s/10790290.jpg|15702572] and then the prequel. Which is odd for me because I usually prefer story in chronological order but this series you can go either way.
