Brilliant. Hadrian being gullible was my least favorite part of Revelations, but I LOVED it here. Shows how good Sullivan’s writing is!

Gwen’s origin story is amazing.

I love this world. I was so happy to be back with Royce and Hadrian and see how it all began. And Gwen! Wasn't expecting her pov and I adore her. Going to just straight into the next book.

I can't get enough of Royce and Hadrian<3
I wish I listened to this first before Theft of Swords, because by now I know what's going to happen in the near future. But it was still enjoyable, and I wouldn't trade those feelings of excitement I felt for anything else.

it's really good to know how These two different men became a team....and the book is excellent

First book in a pair of prequels to Michael J. Sullivan's Riyria Revelations series.

When Crown Tower came out, I was very intrigued and when I finally found a copy, I sat down and read it in about 3 days. Based on some of my own research and what I've heard/read from others, this does a good job of setting you up for the events that take place in the Riyria Revelations.

For me, I felt like this was a very good way to start any series. It may not have had much action per se, but there was a lot of introduction and setting up of the key players in the series.

We get to meet:
--Hadrian, a young veteran who's tired and without a path
--Royce, a thief who believes that everyone will help you as soon as stab you in the back and who wants nothing more than to be free of the debt he owes Arcadius
--Arcadius, a old professor who was a friend of Hadrian's father and who summons Hadrian to his University where he pairs him up with Royce to go after a journal (at the request of Hadrian's late father)
--Gwen, a prostitute from Medford who wants nothing more than to be free of her boss and the men he lets in that seem to take pleasure in killing the girls because they can get away with it
--Pickles, a street urchin who finds Hadrian when he steps off the boat in Calis and quickly befriends Hadrian, almost becoming a surrogate family
--There's also a variety of other people we meet who may or may not make more appearances.

When Hadrian and Royce are first paired off, neither of them wants to be there (quite obviously) but Hadrian attempts to stick it out because it's at the request of his late father and he regrets the way he left things between the two of them. Royce barely attempts to stick it out because he wants to be free from Arcadius who paid to get him out of jail. At first, the two men are very standoffish towards one another and they clearly can barely stand being around each other, but when things really hit the fan, each sees the lengths the other will go to for their partner. After that, there's more banter that flows between the two as they come to trust that the other has got his back. They also somehow manage to teach each other a thing or two. Hopefully that continues through the rest of the books.

Along with the overall general main storyline, Michael throws in a few subplots that keep you guessing and (at least in my case) eager to read the next book and see where they lead.

Not so much about a daring heist as about backstory on the heroes of the Riyira Revelations, how they met and forged their bond, and just how integral Arcadius and Gwen really are to the success of Royce and Hadrian. I thoroughly enjoyed this, and am sure I will enjoy the next volume in this series.

This is a slow read, despite it being short it didn't get good until about 3/4 of the way in. Took too long for our boys to get into adventure, hopefully next one gets the adventure going sooner
