I loved this prequel to The Riyria Revelations. Hadrian and Royce are two of my favorite story characters. The story does not give spoilers to the other stories but I loved learning new things about my beloved characters.

Simplemente brillante.

Don't have too many thoughts about this one. It was nice seeing the start of their enterprise but it was a very average book. Hopefully this series is like Revelations where the books get better exponentially from the last.

This is Royce and Hadrian's first adventure together. It's also the story of Gwen and her early struggles. The book is well written, well paced and a great adventure. I would suggest reading the Riyria Revelations first as you'll understand the characters and their motivations better.

Riyria, it’s elvish for two.
And what a duo these men are. Some of you may know that I inhale read the Riyria Revelations series. It’s hard to read about Royce and Hadrian and not fall in love. Damn near impossible actually. I certainly did, and I knew I wouldn’t leave it long before jumping into Chronicles. I did actually try to start this one towards the end of October but I went to Japan then fell into a HUGE reading slump. Anyways, I picked this up again yesterday and what do you know. Inhale read.

Sullivan’s writing has grown so much. It’s wonderful to see such a difference. Don’t get me wrong, the first Revelations books were good. But by the end they were excellent. The writing here is even better than in HoN.

It’s so nice to return to this world and these wonderful characters. I’m so glad that Sullivan decided to write prequels and not sequels. The way he ended Revelations was so beautiful and perfect. Any sequel would have undone that magic. At the start of Revelations the duo are already well established as the wonder team, capable of pulling of impossible tasks. It’s so nice to see how they get started and to see the legendary heist of the Crown Tower.
I like that you could technically start with these books if you are new to the Riyria world. These Chronicles novels can be read before Revelations and each is a stand alone novel. But if you are new, then I would urge you to read the Revelations series first. It makes this all the more satisfying and as you know how it all comes to an end, you can just sit back and enjoy the journey when you get to these books.

I love that we got to see more of Gwen’s backstory in this. I adore her, and I appreciate her all the more now. She is so strong and kicks ass in the best way.
I also really enjoyed the beginnings on Royce and Hadrian’s relationship. I say relationship because they really don’t get on at first. But as they say, opposites attract.
Also Royce was full of sass and eye rolls, gosh I love him.

I’ll probably jump into the next one in the next few days. Being back with my boys has reignited the fire and thirst for more. I could read about Royce and Hadrian forever.

Hadrian and Royce, sittin' in a tree, K-I-L-L-I-N-G. (Mostly Royce, though; the guy has got an impulse control problem.)

I really liked the main characters Royce and Hadrian. I also really liked Gwen because I always love seeing strong, independent female characters in fantasy novels. However this book didn't answer all my questions especially in regards to
why Royce and Hadrian HAD to be paired together. Why did Arcadius HAVE to pair them together? It was never explained. Though I am not complaining because I do love them as a duo but I want some explanation as to why it was so important these two became partners
. I assume the questions will be answered in the remaining novels or the previous series. I did start with these novels, which I knew were designed to be prequels, because the author stated they could be read in that order and new readers would not be confused. I just wanted that one big question explained! Enjoyed the book nonetheless and look forward to more Royce and Hadrian in the future.
