Abortion storytelling is important to reduce the stigma surrounding this medical procedure. You got a chance to read about people having abortions at every trimester for varying reasons. People who are working to keep abortion safe and legal and accessible. Doctors, advocates and men who’ve been impacted by abortion. I highly suggest this book.

The sixty-two individuals in this book – women who’ve had abortions, the boyfriends/husbands who support them & doctors who perform the procedures – are extremely varied, but all are very brave for being so forthright about the reasons they chose to end a pregnancy or to support women who have chosen to do so. Some of these abortions took place fifty years ago and were done illegally, some were performed much more recently. The reason these women & men chose abortion varies widely. Sometimes the choice was very difficult, sometimes it was much more straightforward. The key words here are “chose” & “choice.”

Something repeatedly brought up in this book, but is often not mentioned during the abortion debate, is equitable access to healthcare, including birth control, in the United States. Affordable, accessible access to healthcare, safe birth control & education, would greatly reduce the need for abortions.

Naturally, in attempting to discuss abortion people can become very emotional and just stop listening. It is important to listen to the stories, like those in this book, to understand the reality of people’s daily lives & the importance of keeping abortion legal & safe for ALL women.
