The threads of plot join together well to the conclusion, and the themes were beautifully explored and well built upon from the first.
Oh, and love that the exploration of gender continue in this one.
All around, a very good follow up to the first book.

6th book of August and 23rd of the year:
The sequel to one of my all-time favorite books, The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet, this book follows an important character from the first book along with a whole new cast of great characters. It was heartfelt, inspiring, adventurous, and fun, had lyrical, atmospheric, and beautiful writing, complex and lovable characters, and queer, PTSD, disability, anxiety, and more representation, and it explored what it means to be human and the importance of community and togetherness. The series is still heavily character-based, which I love, but this installment had more action than the first, so people who enjoy more plot-based stories will enjoy that aspect of it. Personally, The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet is still my favorite in the series, but this was another amazing adventure, and I definitely recommend it and all other Becky Chambers' books! TW for PTSD, anxiety, abuse, animal death, ableism, child death, death, child abuse, drug use, vomit, violence, grief, gaslighting, injury/injury detail, captivity, slavery, mental illness, gore, blood, explosions/fire injury, mentions of sex, mentions of food, murder, and medical content📚🚀ðŸ”

i had a really hard time getting into this after ALWTASAP but i think that’s because i was expecting it to be a sequel. it technically is but this is completely separate from the first. i took a step back and once i came back at it with fresh eyes i was blown away. Chambers is an amazing writer, the way that they build the environment and the characters are mind blowing. I truly loved all of the characters, and i have a soft spot for oouoh and tak. every time i open a becky chambers book i feel like i am becoming a better person. i felt like the ending was rushed because i wanted to savour the happiness but i think it was written in the best way possible and Chambers knows how to structure a story perfectly. this might be one of my favourite books ever.
