Despite losing  steam at the end as the implied becomes the action, The Writing Retreat was an enjoyable read that was easy to get into.

This was MESSY... in the best way? I felt it started quite slow, but with enough interest to make me keep reading. It's not necessarily that the twists are surprising, but that there are so many possibilities all the time.
