This was such a unique concept and a perfect mix of magical realism in a historical setting of rural farmlands with a very idk American vibe. We follow June Farrow whose family have been troubled with a psychiatric affliction where the women seem to lose their minds. This then all unravels and unwinds as you read and the mystery unfolds! I had such a great time with this! One of my favourite reads of the year!

I loved the plot, all its twists and turns and dark corners, the characters we met along the way, the eerie atmosphere of farming towns in the USA. Unfortunately, because I liked it so much, I hoped a deeper dive into its intricacies, a deeper dive into the mechanism of how everything worked. The book left me wanting for more, either a longer story that could offer me time to truly immerse myself in this world. But it was a weird mix between parts that felt rushed and parts that dragged on.
Another thing that irked me was how the mystery was developed. How June dealt with all of it and how she was told things. It just felt frustrating to me, and all the reasons stated in the books for why she couldn't be told things were not good enough to be believable.
But all in all, I enjoyed it. I truly loved the plot and if I keep thinking about it longer, I just might bump this up to 4 stars.

Overall really liked the book, was hoping it would be a 5 star. But honestly I found myself getting a little confused at times, particularly with how June’s plan would lead to the outcome. Just finished it, so may need to let it marinate for a second.
This story started out just a bit slow for me, but the writing was amazing, and I liked the vibe I was starting to get.
I ended up just adoring this book! Trying to piece together June's mysteries and timeliness kept me on my toes. I was so happy that she made the decision that she did, and I can't imagine it ending any other way!!
