My high school history classes were appalling, so I don't recall anything from them, but it was disappointing how skewed the textbooks are for the teachers who actually teach their students history. I am glad that I am into history and have read a number of books that enlighten me to what actually happened, but it's a shame that a lot of students won't know the full truth.

Intro and closing are 5 stars for sure but the middle section is lacking references/supporting arguements so drops a bit in quality

I may change my rating after I finish the book, but so far it's very good. We're going to use it to spearhead our homeschool history study.

Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more if I read it when it first came out. Peoples History was much more engaging.

An interesting critique of high school/basic college American history textbooks. Exposes many flaws, especially the way publishers perpetuate American myths and hugely downplay racism and the full human spectrum of heroes' lives, beliefs, and actions and the highly edited nature of our national "history."
