This should be required reading for every legislator, educator, teacher, and parent. Particularly anyone that influences which text books are selected for use in U.S. History classes. It is an eye-opening read that goes a long way towards explaining the disappointment I experienced when I started realizing more about how our country works and has worked. I highly recommend this book and it will affect how I help my kids learn about history.

Content about actual history- very good!

The constant disparaging of teachers, so frustrating. This author blames teacher for not teaching history. When in all actuality, we are bound to district adopted curriculum by our boards of education.

Finally, way too political for me. I’m always open to hearing a viewpoint that may be different than mine. While I surmise from his rhetoric that we share some common beliefs, it came off as very forceful and bias.

Do not recommend.

This is not an easy book to read, but every person in this country should read this book. It was life changing for me.

Riveting! Never boring! I learned so much by reading this book. It is very well written and offers insight into the original American experience.

Informative take on the things you never learned in the classroom

Everyone should read this. Everyone.

Just finished the heroism chapter

Very clearly written by a white cis liberal, but still full of useful info and a very detailed critique of the way that history is usually taught.
