Great murder storyline with enough doubt that anyone could have done it. This was my second Shari Lapena book and I think it was her best. What I loved about this book was how vividly the characters were painted- we got so many details about them and the many connections to one another. That’s what made guessing the murderer so difficult - they were all so complex and had their own motives and issues.
I did guess the murderer right away, but then I doubted myself because of how masterfully the author tied together the many characters, not just the children. I felt myself getting a little antsy like the book was taking too long to resolve, but it was all leading up to enough turmoil and reasonable doubt that the reveal would be more surprising. I wish we could’ve learned more about the childhood and gotten more of what the parents were like then, but it did give me a pretty clear picture. Good murder mystery thriller !!

It kept me guessing but it was also predictable in a way. The end was pretty flat for me.

Great suspense and build up during the entire book. Really kept you guessing. But, the ending kinda fell flat.
