I can't believe I'm saying this, but I wanted more space politics and space religion. ew! I hate that I said that. but it's the truth.

This book had its up-and-downs. I thoroughly enjoyed the world Ness has created with this series and felt like I was actually walking (running) with Todd.

The only problem I had was it felt repetitive; Run from the army only to be caught by Aaron, escape Aaron to be found by Mr Prentiss Jr, escape Mr Prentiss Jr to continue running from the army, rinse and repeat. It took me a month to complete this book not because I wasn’t interested, but because I would get bored with it and not pick it back up for a week or so. When I was reading it, it was a page-turner; I couldn’t put it down. Then I would reach a point where I just couldn’t continue because of knowing what was going to happen next.

I will say that the ending completely surprised me and I’ll most likely continue the series.

And Manchee absolutely breaks my heart.

DNF

Hated the dialogue

In the first paragraph the word ‘yer’ was used twice and the sentence ‘need a poo?’

Really interesting world. Love the characters and their growth. I will definitely keep going! Can’t wait to see what they do with this movie! “It think maybe everybody falls,” I say. “I think maybe we all do. And I don’t think that’s the asking.”...“I think the asking is whether we get back up again.”

So good

Once you get into it, it is non stop. It is beautiful and heartbreaking and so human. I loved it.

It was very difficult for me to read the language of this book. The intentional misspellings tripped me up and took me out of the book for easily the first third.

However, once I got past that I really enjoyed the story line. I felt like the characters were pretty well written and found the mystery was comfortably predictable (in a good way) with enough surprises to keep it engaging. Like in all good stories, there are areas I wished were fleshed out more. The book kept a good pace and ended on a nice cliffhanger.

I will definitely be reading the next books and would recommend this one as well.
