Another beautiful story. 🖤 It was a slow start for me, I wasn't sure if I was going to like it or keep going, but it grew on me. It was a beautiful story & plot with a few twists which I figured out pretty early on & at least one I didn't see coming at all. My only real complaint were the narrators. I did care for them or the way the male narrator portrayed Oliver, idk if it was requested, if that's just how it was written or what. I get he was supposed to be different a little odd but highly intelligent due to his circumstances but it just didn't sit well with me. Other than that I loved it all & the growth they had both separately & together.
slow-paced
If you’re a person that finds it really irritating when an issue can be cleared up with communication maybe two or three conversations — you’ll hate this book. I sure did.
I’ll start with the positives: the voice actor for the MMC, TJ Clark makes his voice sound really authentic to his experience, being isolated for 22 years. However, because our male main character is big into feeling like he’s a superhero, or the voice actor really interpreted it as that way, every single sentence in this audiobook that he reads is spoken like that and it irks. my. soul.
Mainly, this book was a lot of dragging and either forced accountability, for no reason or accountability, for no reason. Why does the person who has been isolated as a victim of kidnapping have more emotional capacity than the FMC?
Why does Gabe talk about his best friend like that? He’s constantly being demeaning, and essentially calling her a slut. And he says he’s doing that because he’s trying to protect Oliver and we just don’t address it. Ever.
Why is a Sydney more mad that her sister kept a huge secret involving a trauma from her then she is that the issue occurred? That may be an unfair of me, but the emotional reaction versus the action that you can do to help her survivor really does matter. . .
And I agree with Clementine, no matter how much you trust a person if I put my child in your care then you should run things by me before allowing someone else to watch my child, niece or not.
Overall, despite how long the book is, there’s not enough to develop characters to necessitate the length. I had to force myself to finish, I don’t know why this book brought out so much of my rage but whew. I will certainly not be reading it again.

Lotus is my absolute favorite. In this story we have Sydney and Oliver. Fourth July is supposed to be a happy day, but it wasn’t for Oliver because he was kidnapped by a madmen and held captive for 22 years. When he finally returns to civilization he has to learn to live with the trauma he locked away.
As he starts to uncover the truth of why he was taken things take a drastic turn.

Oliver and Sydney are an incredible duo.
I loved the snippets of their childhood we got and how those moments would come back into play.
As hard as it was, I liked the flashbacks of Oliver in captivity. I thought Oliver’s progression into the real world was well done and realistic. I liked how tender-hearted he was (hello, pet raccoon).
I liked Sydney and found her to be a badass. I was sometimes annoyed because it felt like she was holding herself back from Oliver for longer than needed. I understood she had her trauma of her best friend being taken, but Oliver—the one who was taken—was almost more acclimated than she was at times, and I didn’t like that.
I found it interesting how it all came to play with her sister. I loved Gabe as a side character and cannot wait to read his and Tabitha’s book.

I really liked the added aspect of Oliver and his comic books: that was fun.
All in all, this was incredibly well done!
