Lotus by Jennifer Hartmann is such an emotional rollercoaster! The characters are super well-developed and the plot twists totally kept me on my toes, even though they were a tad predictable. It gets a bit slow here and there, but the themes of love and healing are really powerful. Definitely recommend!
Absolutely incredible! I absolutely ate this audiobook up! I wish I could forget it and re hear it all over again
I could not put this book down, oh my friggen god. Something a little different to change things up, the trauma felt so real and the healing. The twists kept me on the edge of my seat and I absolutely loved both the main characters and their developments. I loved the friendship between Gabe and Syd.. I cannot say a single thing wrong with this book tbh. 5 stars all around!
Oliver was abducted for 22 years, his best friend Sydney never forgot him. Oliver lived underground after being held captive and adjusted to his way of living until one day he stepped into the world he thought was gone.
This love story is far was beautiful, watching Oliver find himself and live at the same time and Sydney coming to terms that Oliver is not the boy she once knew. There were parts where I wanted to throw up, I screamed and wanted to fight Syndey. The plot twists were twisting because I didn’t see them coming, I am still unwell

So good
Wow! This book was so good. The H was definitely a favorite. He was sweet and smart and innocent. I loved watching him fall in love with the h. The h was fun and sweet too. This book had a lot of heart and good steam. I loved the twist. The siblings were great characters too. I'm so glad the brother found love. This is my first read from this author, but now I am intrigued to read more.

4.25 stars. This was very good. Not as good as Still Beating but still really good. Hartman writes trauma so well. The stories have heavy abuse, physical and sexual. This is the story of Oliver who was abducted and kept underground for 16years. He left his childhood best friend Sydney. It is their story of friendship and love. It had some great twists at the end of who was the cause of Oliver's abduction. The symbol of Lotus was pretty cool too. Another great book by Hartmann.
This book wrecked me in a whole other way to Still Beating. The worlds of the two books crossover with Lotus centring around Oliver, who has spent 20 years trapped in the basement of his kidnapper, and Sydney has childhood neighbour.
Oliver is a complex and beautiful character. He was not subject to abuse and was kept well with access to books and drawing materials. He is an artist, an old soul and has a naive innocence to him. He doesn't have the complexities of language due to lack of social interaction, so he wears his heart on his sleeve and speaks his mind openly. He is a captivating character and my heart ached for him so many times in this book.
Sydney is Oliver's childhood best friend. She still lives in the same house next door to Oliver's younger brother. She is unable to form relationships or risk her heart as she has lived with the heartbreak of losing her best friend for two decades. When Oliver returns she hesitantly reaches out to help with his reintegration to living within society again.
There is such simplicity to this love story. Those first kisses gave me all the heart and stomach flutters. But at the same time, Lotus is a complex and cleverly layered story about family, about abuse, about emotional recovery and about finding the other half of your soul. Oliver and Sydney were destined to be together and this story will have you in tears as they work through their emotions to get their HEA.
