I quite enjoyed this book. Great action, pretty decent plot line, and some colorful characters. The writing is pretty darn good too - it's stylized for the noir genre, but that makes it no less well done. Definitely a page turner that struck me as authentic.
I don't have a lot else to say, the story is neither subtle nor complex, although the author does his best to create characters with real feelings, for the most start steering clear of them just serving as mouthpieces for modern socio-political tropes. The linear, predictable nature of the story made this fall short of five stars for me, but I would definitely pick this one up if you are interested in a modern take on Crime Noir.

This book is phenomenal! It is my favorite read of 2024. It is not an easy read but it is so worth it. It reads like a movie. The writing is excellent. This book was action packed, emotionally wrenching, funny, heartfelt and suspenseful. A day later I’m still thinking about these characters. I can’t say that I liked the main characters, I often wonder what kind of parent could turn their back on their gay kids. The author does not make excuses for these fathers but he did make me care about them. Even though I’m so hurt for the deceased sons who were failed by their fathers, I can empathize with these parents whose regret is even larger than their grief. S.A. Cosby did a great job with difficult subject matter.

I would give this 10 stars if I could. The writing and the plot are amazing and has just the right balance in themes and emotion. I really love this book.

An interesting exploration of class, racism, and homophobia through the eyes of two fathers seeking revenge for the death of their two married sons, but it was too gritty for me.
