Did I read another book by Rick Ross? Yes, I did. Wild.
Ross!! I love Rick Ross. I enjoyed his story although some of it put me in the mind of Dick Gregory's stories....you never really know just how much of it is reality. Lol

I enjoyed reading this book by Rick Ross, however I am dubious about several of his accounts regarding his past life to be honest. It might be the whole C.O. thing or it might be the fact that I am so incredulous to the fact that someone who had a good background would just hop into the drug game like that. Both parents, hard working and educated and yet you saw fit to sell drugs. Holy Crap. People just look for dumb things to do I guess. The book also made me realize that Rick Ross has several albums, I thought he had three! I really enjoyed him talking about his music and addressing his biggest controversies as well. This was a nice, short read for #NonfictionNovember.

Must read for Rozay fans. It's cool to hear the stories behind so many tracks and albums you like. Besides the music, Ross has had a story worthy life to say the least. PS Rick Ross is top 5 dead or alive.
I still like his music - book had no effect on that. This book was just too all over the place for me.
When we see people on TV, it’s like looking at the tip of the iceberg. There’s so much more to people than what meets the eye, and to me, a good memoir will take you beneath the surface of person’s life and show us the depths of who they are by exploring where they come from and the private battles they faced behind the scenes while we were just viewing what made it on the screen. While I don’t think this memoir dove into super deep waters, it did provide a decent level of detail into Rick’s background and his rise to fame, revealing the the many pitfalls on the way there including drug addictions and multiple arrests. It’s seriously amazing this guy isn’t serving a life sentence.

Anyway, I most appreciated his vulnerability about his relationship with his father and his friend named Steve who introduced him to Christ. Those represent some of the more intimate details of his life that we just don’t see. I think those who are into pop culture will like to hear about his beef with 50 cent, Meek Mill, and Birdman. I also appreciated how he aligned events in his life with he crack epidemic which was a huge factor in the life he lived in his early years.

To be honest, I didn’t walk away from this story feeling very inspired or thoughtful. Not that I expected to. Overall, even though the book dragged at times with some of the more mundane details, I found his story to be a classic story of a hood dude trying to succeed in his rap career. There are a LOT of similarities between him and Gucci Mane’s story, memoir I also read. In case you’re wondering, Gucci’s was better.

I will give this book 3.5 starts... leaning towards 4 stars. It’s definitely a page turner if you make it through some of the dryer parts of his story. It’s raw, it gets personal and it’s insightful. The book is also very well-written.
Side note: If you’re looking to get some inside information on his very public relationship with Lira Galore, you won’t find it. I think her name was only mentioned once in the entire book.

I really enjoyed this - I was surprised. I know very little about Rick Ross, but I know a bit about the hiphop landscape. I appreciated hearing his side of history.
