An interesting and informative history that chronicles the connection between Jews and Comic Books. An absolutely great read for any fan of comics!

When I took a class on graphic novels in the English department I was hoping to get an overview of the graphic medium. I was looking forward to going through the trends and developments from the early days of comics to the modern masters of the form. I was expecting a literary approach similar to what I would get in British or American Lit.

I did not get any of these things except in the broadest of strokes. The contextualization of comics was limited to what we read in Scott McCloud's Understanding Comics, which was good but limited. From Krakow to Krypton was the history and context I wanted. I read this for my Religion, Media, and Popular Culture class. The focus is on Jewish creators and the Jewish influence on U.S. comics, so creators from the British wave are barely mentioned, but if you want a good look at the early days of comics, especially where superheroes are concerned, this is a great place to start.
