4.5 stars. (This was the 1000th book I've read! Or probably more accurate to say, it's the 1000th book I've marked as "read" on Goodreads.)

Noooooo no no no no it can't end like that!!! I need Book 2 right now!

This book was so good!! I am fully invested in this story. Layla was such an amazing FMC. She was strong, a bit dark, and didn't take sh** from anyone.

The MMC, Rune, starts off strong and dominant, but quickly becomes Layla's follower almost, trailing her around and doing what she says.
SpoilerAt the beginning he's all "I want you to submit to me." and then that dominant personality just decreases more and more as the book goes on.
The occasional dirty talk was good, but a smidge more spice would have been good to back it up.

I cannot wait for the next book!

First....amazing. Second....CLIFFHANGER!!! Third..... read this book. Oh. My. Word. This was a fantasticly fun and fast paced book. I love when we get some good plot twists. Even if they rip your heart out and stomp on it. I loved the characters and their chemistry was so well done and just all around fun! They had excellent banter and while I did get frustrated with Rune bc he just couldn't ..... I dunno he was like a toddler playing chase in a glass shop. He was all bluster and came in hot and then had to apologize bc he came in hot and blustered about lol

Overall I really loved this book. I'm absolutely feral for the characters and I just love the familiars! The steamy spice was sweltering and delicious.

I hate cliffhangers because I never feel like I get enough time in their world. But this is a fantastic series and I'm so glad to have received an ARC for my honest opinion.

I will admit that it took me a little while to get into this book, but once I did I was definitely invested. The various threads of mystery are all interwoven beautifully, and while some twists I found myself predicting very early on there were others which caught me completely by surprise.

I largely enjoyed the dynamic between the FMC and MMC, and while I do love the classic enemies to lovers I did enjoy the change of pace of having lovers to enemies to reluctant allies.

I did find myself wanting a little more in terms of world building, but there is a lot of potential for this to be expanded on further in the sequel - which I'm hoping isn't too far away after that cliff-hanger!! Also as someone who grew up loving the His Dark Materials universe, I couldn't help but love the element of Soul Shards, particularly Keir who is a little bundle of sass at times!

Denman rises to the occasion with this twisted tale of blood and legacy. I enjoyed every page, and definitely want it on my shelf now.

First I’d like to thank the author for sending me this Arc in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book for the most part, however I feel like some of the world building needed some work. There were a lot of times especially toward the end where things are mentioned and made out to be huge components to the story but they weren’t mentioned AT ALL leading up to it. It was just poof here’s this super important thing that you had no idea about before but definitely should have. Which is ultimately what made this 3⭐️s for me instead of 4. However, I loved the banter and back and forth between Layla & Rune and their hot and cold relationship. Rune is probably my favorite from the whole book. That ending though!?! WHAT??? I need to know the next part now!!

I received this book as an ARC (thank you Caitlin). The genre was a little different than what I normally read and I really liked it. The main character is great and I really liked her. I would definitely recommend reading this!

I really, really enjoyed Blood Queen, and I’m looking forward to the next book, but I have a very big problem with the writing. I spent the entirety of the book trying to figure out what, exactly, the author has against complete sentences. The sentence fragments were killing me! There were also so, so many editorial errors, particularly with misplaced, misused, or just plain missing punctuation. The verb tenses often didn’t agree, sometimes within the same sentence! I actually pondered a couple of times if perhaps the sentence fragments happened because the author did not use the correct tense. The only reason this book was 3 stars for me is because I truly enjoyed the plot and I’m excited to see what happens next. If I had found the plot to be lackluster at all, this would’ve been a 1-star for me, purely based on the grammatical and editorial mistakes. If you’re publishing a book, do better.

I received an advance review copy of Blood Queen, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for this book.

“I wanted to murder him, rip out his heart, and feed it back to him. I wanted to take out all my aggression on him. But then why did I also want to feel his hand against my skin and feel him inside me once more?”

Thank you so much NetGalley and Caitlin Denman for an arc of Blood Queen in exchange for an honest review.

I am very thankful to the author and Netgalley for letting me read it and review it. I liked the book; the concept is different, that sucks you in right inside the book. I love the dark vibes I got from the kingdom and the places mentioned in the book.
