The first half of this story is pretty disorienting, but once everything starts to come together it’s like a whole new world opens up. I felt like one of those detectives with everything posted on a wall with strings trying to connect all the details. This is definitely a book you should read twice to fully get the whole picture.
The reason this book just misses the mark to be a 5 star read for me, is that I found Dee’s storyline to be disjointed from the rest of the plot. Her ending was also incredibly unsatisfying and just sad. Furthermore, I just wasn’t overwhelmed with emotion the way I hoped I would be at the end.
I did really appreciate the time and research put into to making this kind of story authentic and eye opening. I am a little disheartened that this story is branded as horror when in reality it ends up being more off a heartbreaking thriller. Overall, I do believe that no matter what reviews you see about this book, it’s worth a read.
