This wowed me as a kid, in the way of Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. I should reread it, though, bc I don't remember any details.

This book was a favorite of mine when I was a girl, so I decided to reread it. Still enjoyable even with my older eyes.

This is an incredible book about an incredible girl. Not a happy story by any means, but a story about growing up and making choices and living life to the best of ones ability.
A beautiful book to read with my ten year old. It made both of us cry, especially for what she left behind. We both agree she should have stayed.

Classic childhood favorite, it holds up. We love a book in which girls are self sufficient and can make anything they need and make animal friends. Probably at least one of the origins of my over confident belief in my ability to make anything I need in an emergency. Would give to a child I was responsible for.
