I enjoyed reading this book, but don’t really understand why the author wanted to tell these stories? thinking of them as short stories definitely helps, but the whole thing was very disjointed and the timeline was confusing with no resolution at the end. I did like the characters and the places where their friendship was the main focus

characters unlikeable in a way that put me off at times, wanted this to be so much more than it was

Read the content warnings - some things weren’t necessary graphic but they were sudden/dropped in what felt like a careless way at times and the characters’ apathy towards these things really threw me off

Jane’s dad’s death really felt like it came out of nowhere and then the emotionally impacts of that weren’t fully addressed until the last few pages of the book. I really wanted Jane’s journey with her sexuality to feel more interconnected with her dad’s but it felt seemingly random to me that they were both queer

The only item I would have liked added is a note of how much time passed between chapters. But that might have been on purpose after reading one of the lines in the last chapter (not a spoiler) - “We were moving fast now, everything sped up; the years seemed to fly past like nothing.”

I loved this book. The structure is unusual: a collection of short stories rather than a novel, about the 2 friends and the twists and turns their lives take, together and apart, alternating their points of view. It's full of pain and regret, but also funny at times and easy to read. A fascinating,  wry and poignant view of relationships: romantic, sexual, family, friendships.
