Hostage to Pleasure is the fifth book in the Psy-Changeling series. Loved It! What a great way to start the book. Action and Suspense in the very first page. I was drawn in and could not put this one down.

Dorian is latent, which means he can’t shift and although many see it as a disadvantage, he doesn’t let that hinder his determination and protectiveness over Pack. He makes up for it with his sniper abilities and sharp mind. In this book he's really the tortured soul, close to the edge, driven by a terrible hatred for the Psy, and self-hatred for not being able to save his baby sister from being tortured and murdered.

Ashaya Aleine is an M-Psy who already showed signs of feelings and emotions in “Mine to Possess". She's incredibly strong as a person, having broken Silence many years ago and she has had to act emotionless with perfection, anything less would mean her and her son's death. I loved her moments with her son, Keenan!

Amara, Ashaya’s twin sister, is a threat to Dorian and Shaya, so even though she wasn’t as ruthless and psycho as the other killers we see in the previous books, she was scary possessive of her twin sister.

WOW. This series just keeps getting better and better.

Audio Jan 2017: Wonderful in audio. The narrator brings the character and world to life.

Overarching story arc: great and fascinating. But Dorian is aggressive and angry and it felt like Singh was bending over backwards to make Ashaya the Best Ever and Totally Innocent Of Anything Bad Really and all of the sex scenes seemed to take place after there was yelling and/or crying and... yeah, the romance didn't do it for me.

The Psy council forced Ashaya, a Psy scientist, to work on a project by holding her son hostage. When she saved two human children from another scientist, she asked Dark River to save her son, too. After her son is taken away from the council, she makes her own escape and finds herself in Dark River territory with Dorian, a leopard Changeling.

Dorian's sister was murdered by a Psy. He hates that he is drawn to Ashaya, but can't stop tear himself away.

There were a couple of misunderstandings, even though they didn't last super long. And Dorian is often abrupt and rude to Ashaya, even after he realizes his feelings for her. I understand that he has issues, but he doesn't treat Ashaya as kindly as she deserves, and that pisses me off.

I remember liking Dorian better in the novella about his childhood, so maybe I'll read that again soon and see what I think of him after that.

This is the reason why I should write reviews at once, this one was left behind not to mention that I started and finished it over some weeks since I had that crazy library loot.

But ok, here we have another psy and changeling falling in love. But this one was different because Ashaya was not like other Psy and therefore it worked better for me. Ashaya wants to save her kid, Dorian helps her, people hunt her, he lusts after her, and she is troubled. In this book another bad guy shows up, a human alliance that wants to take over and sure the Psy sucks but this new alliance is rotten.

What did I get from this book, well there is this rat shifter called Treyan or something, and the freaky thing is that I'd like to see more from him..a rat shifter, I must be crazy. But he sounds cool, the rats are so sneaky and great spies.

I liked Dorian, and here he finally gets saved or looses it since he is really angry with the Psy after his sister getting murdered. So of course he will fall for a Psy who saves him. And I liked her, even with that crazy sister of hers.

Not so much council politics in this one since there were many after them. An ok book and a world I do like. The world is truly the best thing about these books.

So.
Much.
Trauma bonding.

I'm more invested in the overall story (how we get to Trinity) but jeez Louise the trauma bonding is so real. All these people need therapy. All'm. E'ery last one. Heck I think I might need therapy after this series.

Awesome

It was great to finally see Dorian happy after all he has been through! I also love Ashaya! I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Good but I wasn't as engaged as I was with the other books. I think there may have been too much going on.

Reread 2015: got more out of it this time hence the higher rating.
