so very close to perfect. after this i won't be logging comics here i have comic geeks for that but this takes up so much time i feel like its fair to do

anyways this is a really really strong story. the first 7 or so issues before shit hits the fan aren't great, but once things pick up, they REALLY pick up and you don't wanna put it down. i read issues 35-47 all in one night cause i was just so invested. mark is such a lovable main character and you want to see him succeed and grow so much. the supporting cast is phenomenal (although william is incredibly unlikable in this book compared to the show). i'm very very fond of this story and everything this book does. i know compendiums 2 & 3 will be better cause they don't have the set up issues.

I've tried to stay away from logging the comic books I've read this year (outside of graphic novels, like The Low Low Woods). I am constantly reading comic books, to the point that they'd dwarf the novels I've read and tracked on here if I put them on my list.

Anyway, this was 1100 pages and I spent like a month reading it, so it felt necessary to include.

This is bsolutely a product of the mid 2000s, there's gore for gore's sake, homophobic and ableist jokes, and the plotlines can feel stuck in that era too. But it's also really incredible superhero storytelling. Mark's problem is both stereotypical, and unique. The heroes are both modeled after Marvel and DC heroes, and completely their own. It's really funny. The characters are great!
