The book was enjoyable however it didn’t live up to the first. The event just kind of happened.

The ending was a bit anti-climactic. I thought Hazel would have a more dramatic exit from the Companions of the Death. None of the other members came after her, except Anne-Marie. Plus Anne-Marie’s meddling in the king’s illness did not surprise me. Also, I thought we’d get more crimes from their group. Like embezzlement of royal funds or poisonings. I did like the bit about Anne-Marie ending up a floating head after Jack hacked her apart. I appreciated that the queen and her lady’s maid were in love and Hazel’s respect for them. Her willingness to help and conspire to make their dreams come true made me happy. I also liked that finale when Beecham appeared as his own solicitor.

Moreover, I liked Hazel’s personal development, her growing confidence as a physician, her love and loyalty to Jack even when the temptation of another man came around, and her determination to help others.

i'm going to pretend that this book doesn't exist and that anatomy is a standalone. apart from hazel (mostly), this book was a sad, disappointing, unsatisfactory mess

I don't think this sequel was required.
She should have ended up with Simon, Jack was kind of a jerk in this sequel.

It's considered a YA book, but I would suggest more geared towards an older teen crowd.

“Immortality: A Love Story” is the sequel to “Anatomy: A Love Story”. Even though I was approved to read the book prior to publication I didn’t get around to reading it until a year later. Therefore there was a gap in time between when I read the first book and the second book. This meant I had a little trouble remembering everything that happened in “Anatomy”. But, I got into “Immortality” within a few chapters. The story was interesting and I enjoyed the mixture of medical mystery, history and romance. It was low spice which I also appreciated. There is also a philosophical and political aspect to the story… it makes you think.

All in all, I enjoyed this and would definitely recommend it to my friends.
