This book was really, really good. It very much gave off Better Than the Movies vibes which probably contributed to my enjoyment. It added a nice twist to the classic fake-dating trope (which is my favorite trope ever) so I had a great time. Just not a five star because some of the actions of the mc just didn’t make sense at times. But eventually everything turned out to make sense in the end.

I liked the first 70%. Kind of conflicted about parts of the ending.

It's not my cup of tea, and it will not work for the Lone Star List. (F bomb~)

“If you’re looking for perfect, you’ll miss out on what’s right.”

I thought this was gonna be a simple and cute rom com story, but it’s actually a lot more complex with lots of drama throughout the story because love is complicated and it doesn’t play by the rules. You don’t choose when, where or who you love.

I find Imogen quite annoying at first, but her character grow on me as she learn from her mistakes.
I absolutely love the poems that August wrote for Imogen, it’s short but the words are very sweet!

“I wish you could see how happy I would make you.
Then we would never need another wish because we would be enough for each other.”

Who wouldn't melt when a boy makes a poem like that to you ?!!!

It started to get more emotional in the second half part of the story where Imogen has to pay for the choices she made and when she finds out about the lies and how she changes her view about true love.

I also love the magical aspect in this story where Imogen and her mother have the special ability to see the aura of love and heart break.
Although I wish the magic element was more explored, I wanted to know how come they have this ability.

Overall, it’s a well written story about love, forgiveness, heart break, trying something new and facing the consequences of our actions .

It’s the perfect book to read during summer/ spring if you love a YA rom com with fake dating trope and a dash of magic.

I received a review copy for free through Netgalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Huge thank you to the author and publisher!

The writing is good and the characters are interesting. The premise and the lying were not great. What killed it was all the problematic and unrealistic nonsense about ‘true love.’ Let’s give teenagers unrealistic ideas and expectations when real life is so much more complicated and mundane.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This was so MESSY ohmygod. Messy plot/character-wise not writing-wise. Like EVERYONE was so MESSY except for Gemma (Imogen’s bff) and her dads. Like it just kept getting worse, I don’t know if I was entertained or annoyed. I thought I was about to read a cute hopeless romantic comedy YA but no, drama followed Imogen everywhere! Well, to be fair, majority of it was on her. I will say though that despite of everyone being messy, it was still written well. I love the fact that everyone’s actions were held accountable (especially Imogen’s). They all had their stories tied up in a little nice ribbon in the end. I also did love the magical aspect of love in this book. I would love to have the same abilities of seeing the auras of people when they’re in love or heartbroken but I guess it would also be kind of a curse and then I end up doing something dumb like Imogen. But, love triangles are just not my thing.
