Very well written, very likable characters but I guess having read The Music and the Mirror I expected more drive and drama from the story which is, of course, is just a personal preference.
But this aspect did make me feel less excited while reading, this was still quite an enjoyable easy read though.

I didn't enjoy this very much, which was disappointing. I have no issues with unlikeable characters but Alice feels like such a nothingburger of a character. She's a princess, has served in the Air Force, and that's kind of it. She has very formalised speech patterns and her the only reason I know she has a sense of humor and makes funny jokes is because other characters tell me she did and is and I have to read back what I just saw to find the humor.
The other MC, on the other hand, is incredibly rude to everyone, especially Alice. I did not buy that someone working for a school that is hosting a Royal Princess would be allowed to talk that way to the royal visitor, and even later she shits all over things that are important to Alice, such as memorial services for other fallen soldiers, while she's happy to take advantage of the benefits of the monarchy that dating someone in that position affords her.
I didn't buy that they had much of a connection or cared about each other in any meaningful way, which makes the life changes that occur as a result of that connection something I couldn't really appreciate either.
