I like Cindy. I do think she was somewhat stupid and impulsive in this book, but it made sense with who she is.

While I was on vacation, I read Stalker by Faye Kellerman. This is the 12th in the Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus series. It was fast paced and fun to read, although I found Cindy’s actions as a Mysteryrookie cop to be less than believable.

I read the Kindle edition. Book originally published Aug 2000 by Morrow/Harper Collins.

Urg. No more Kellermans for me. Didn't care for any of the characters, especially the main people. Never did figure out the motivation for the initial crime--I remember reading it, it didn't make sense, but I was not into the book enough to re-read even a paragraph.

Faye Kellerman, is the wife of Jonathan Kellerman whose books I read avidly many years ago. So I must admit the name attracted my attention this is the 12th in a series featuring Peter Decker and his wife Rina Lazarus sleuths but this time the focus is on their daughter Cindy, a young police officer.

I was expecting a really good whodunnit but unfortunately I was bitterly disappointed instead I found myself navigating my way through lots of political and ‘office’ bullshit gossip amongst police officers. If you want to read a book about how cops treat each other like crap then this will fit the bill.

Cindy is drawn into investigating a series of carjackings and inadvertently draws the attention of a stalker which in turn focuses on dissecting the motives and social miasma of the police force which becomes increasingly tiresome to read. Cindy being the daughter of a cop you think she would have learned a thing or two, but she thinks hey I think I’m being stalked but lets keep this to myself!!

The book was overlong and the story wasn’t substantive enough to sustain interest, I didn’t care about any of the characters what happened to them or their motives. And what’s with the obsession with sweat, Cindy sweated at the drop of a hat I think this was the only way the author had of conveying tension if Cindy was sweating we knew there was a tense moment coming up - ugh!

My recommendation - steer well clear of this entry in the series. But unfortunately I personally have no interest in exploring this author’s works any further.

One of her good ones! I'm a sucker for the combination of a strong (but wounded) female character, a loving (but dysfunctional) family, and a thoughtful mystery.
